Matthew’s practice is focused primarily on commercial litigation, including complex contractual disputes and construction claims.  He regularly helps businesses and individuals find effective ways to resolve conflict arising from contractual, shareholder, and property disputes as well as debt recovery.

A significant component of Matthew’s practice involves construction matters including disputes over work quality and entitlement to payment, deficiencies, delay claims, insurance coverage, and builders liens.

Recognizing that litigation management starts with effective planning, Matthew also advises clients from the start of projects on business structuring, contract drafting and negotiation, financial risk management, and developing claim strategies.

Matthew is a passionate advocate for his clients.  He takes a pragmatic approach to resolving disputes and works hard to understand his clients’ objectives so that an ideal resolution can be confidently pursued.

He has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia on a variety of interlocutory, trial, and appeal matters.

Matthew has served as director for the Fraser Valley Home Builders Association.  He has published articles in a number of trade and general media publications and is a regular lecturer for various chapters of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association.
