Construction Law

We serve a broad range of clients in the construction industry, including owners, developers, government entities, general contractors and subcontractors, architects, engineers, material suppliers and employees.

We have the experience and knowledge to help any party at any stage of a construction project, in all manner of issues, including tendering, contracting, substantial completion, deficiency and warranty claims, builders liens and complex delay disputes.

We focus on providing creative and cost-effective solutions that get to the heart of the issues, working to find practical strategies and, wherever possible, avoiding lengthy and costly proceedings and minimizing the disruption to your business.

Since 1998 we have been the creators and instructors of the Construction Law Course that is offered in conjunction with the Canadian Home Builders Association of British Columbia Certified Residential Builder Program.

We frequently present seminars and write articles on recent construction law developments for the construction industry.

A representative sample of some of the work that we do in the construction industry is:
  • Drafting and negotiating construction contracts, including design-build, stipulated price, cost-plus and P3 projects
  • Resolving payment, deficiency and contractual disputes
  • Dealing with builders liens
  • Advising in all areas of dispute resolution including mediation, arbitration and the Courts
